How to Change Your Phone Number on Binance

Got a new phone number, or your old one has been deactivated? You'll need to update the number linked to Binance. This isn't just about receiving verification codes — it's a security concern. If your old number gets recycled by the carrier and assigned to someone else, that person could receive your Binance verification texts. This article covers the update process for both scenarios.

Log into your account at the Binance official website to get started, or complete the process on your phone by downloading the Binance App.

Scenario 1: You Can Still Receive Codes on Your Old Number

This is the simplest case — the whole thing takes about five minutes.

Desktop steps:

  1. Log into Binance and click the profile icon in the upper right
  2. Go to "Security"
  3. Under "Phone Verification," click "Change"
  4. The system will send a verification code to your old number to confirm your identity
  5. Enter the old phone's code, then enter your new phone number
  6. Enter the verification code sent to your new number to complete the binding
  7. If you also have Google Authenticator or email verification enabled, those codes will be required as well

App steps:

  1. Open the Binance App and tap the profile icon in the upper left
  2. Go to "Security"
  3. Tap "Phone Verification" > "Change Phone Number"
  4. Follow the prompts to enter the old phone code, then the new phone code
  5. Complete any additional security verification

Once changed, the new number takes effect immediately. However, note that withdrawals will be temporarily restricted for 24 hours after a phone number change — this is Binance's built-in security protection.

Scenario 2: Your Old Number Can No Longer Receive Codes

This is a bit more involved, but Binance has a process for it.

Option A: Skip via the "Unavailable" option

  1. When prompted for a phone verification code during login or security verification
  2. Click the "Security verification unavailable?" link
  3. Select "Phone verification unavailable"
  4. The system will guide you through alternative verification methods (email code + Google Authenticator)
  5. Once verified, you can link a new phone number

Prerequisite: You need at least two other verification methods still active. If you only had phone verification with no other methods, you'll need to go through manual review.

Option B: Submit a manual request

If Option A doesn't work, contact support for manual processing:

  1. Go to the Binance Help Center
  2. Submit a ticket under "Account Security" > "Change Phone Number"
  3. Upload the required materials:
    • A photo of yourself holding your ID (same document used for KYC)
    • A note with your Binance account email and today's date
    • An explanation of why your old number is unavailable
  4. Wait for the security team to review

Manual review typically takes 1–3 business days, and complex cases may take longer. Normal trading isn't affected during the review period, but security-related operations may be restricted.

Post-Change Considerations

After successfully changing your phone number, keep these things in mind:

24-hour withdrawal cooldown: This is a fixed rule — no withdrawals for 24 hours after a phone number change. This safeguard prevents someone from hijacking your account, swapping the number, and immediately draining your funds. Don't contact support to speed this up — it's a system-level restriction that even support can't bypass.

Verify your new number can receive SMS: Some virtual numbers or international numbers may not receive Binance messages. Test your new number's SMS reception before making the change. Binance supports most countries' phone numbers, but some virtual carrier numbers may have issues.

Update other platforms too: If your old number was also linked to other trading-related platforms (other exchanges, banking apps, etc.), update those bindings as well.

Special Situations

What if your number has been recycled by the carrier?

This is an urgent situation. If someone else now has your old number, they could theoretically receive your Binance verification texts. You should:

  1. Log into Binance immediately and change your phone number using other verification methods (email + Google Authenticator)
  2. If you can't log in, contact support immediately to freeze your account
  3. Complete the phone number change as quickly as possible

Abroad and can't receive domestic SMS?

Common causes include international roaming not being enabled or signal issues. Solutions:

  • Enable international roaming SMS service
  • Use Wi-Fi Calling (supported by some carriers)
  • Temporarily use email and Google Authenticator for security verification
  • Wait until you're back home to update to your current number

Can one phone number be linked to multiple Binance accounts?

No. One phone number can only be bound to one Binance account. If your number is already linked to another account, you'll need to unlink it from that account first.

Combining Phone Verification with Other Methods

Relying on SMS verification alone isn't the most secure approach, due to the risk of SIM swap attacks. The recommended security combination is:

  • Google Authenticator (primary 2FA) + SMS (backup) + Email verification
  • Having all three active means that even if one fails, the other two still protect your account
  • For high-balance users, consider adding a hardware security key (YubiKey)

Avoid Frequent Number Changes

One final tip: try not to change your Binance-linked phone number frequently. Each change triggers a 24-hour security cooldown, and frequent changes may draw attention from the risk control system. If you change numbers often due to work or personal reasons, consider keeping a dedicated number solely for financial and trading platform bindings.

Stable security settings are the foundation of asset protection. Changing a phone number may seem minor, but mishandling it can create big problems. Follow the steps above, and you should have no issues.
